ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Fourth Baptist-Tsinghua Joint Conference, co-organized by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Tsinghua University, will be held on 22 to 25 May 2002 at HKBU. This Conference, entitled "China in the World in the 21th Century: Hot Development Issues in Contemporary China", addresses the development issues in association with contemporary China in the world of the 21th century. The five main themes include:
(a) Urban and Regional Development;
(b) Political and Social Development;
(c) Economic Reform and Development;
(d) History, Culture and Education;
(e) Chinese foreign policy and border issues.
In light of the first two themes, the Centre for China Urban and Regional Studies will assist in organizing 3 paper sessions, entitled, respectively:
(1) "Hong Kong-Pearl River Delta Integration";
(2) "Rural Poverty and Development"; and
(3) "Social Welfare Reform in China"
